신뢰와 감춤의 원칙
오늘 미션의 날, 우리는 어떤 모양이든 선교에 뛰어드는 헌신을 하고자 합니다. 특별히 선교헌금을 작정할 때, 몇 가지 원칙을 생각하려고 합니다.첫째, 신뢰의 원칙입니다. 당연한 말이면서도 재확인되어야 할 단어가 ‘신뢰’입니다. 교회적으로 돕기로 작정한 선교사님들과 단체들을 위해서, 또한 우리교회가 속해 있는 교단 C&MA선교사역을 위한 상회비를 위해, 우리는 선교예산을 짜고 교인총회를 통과하게 됩니다. 그 이후 우리는 그 필요에 따라 매달 첫 주일 작정된 선교헌금을 드려 교회가 약속대로 후원하는 일을 돕게 됩니다. 간혹 지정헌금으로 선교헌금을 대신 하는 성도님들이 계십니다. 자기가 지정한 선교사와 특별사역을 위해서만 헌금이 사용되도록 하는 목적으로 하는 헌금입니다. 교회는 이런 경우 단순히 심부름만 하면 되지만, 이런 헌금형태가 만연되는 것은 다음과 같은 이유로 합당치 않습니다. 첫째, 헌금이 자기 것이라고 하는 오해입니다. 교회에서 결정한 후원 예산안에 동참하지 못하고, 교회에서 계획하는 사역과 선교전략과 상관 없이, 자기 마음대로 후원지를 결정해서 스스로 집행하는 폐단을 낳을 수 있습니다. 둘째, 교회가 후원하는 선교사님에게 지정헌금을 할 경우, 특정 선교사님에게 편중되어 교회가 정한 지원 형평성이 깨질 수 있습니다. 물론 선교현장에서 특별 프로젝트를 시작해서 교회적으로 인준한 사역일 때, 한시적으로 지정헌금을 할 수 있으며, 선교사님의 개인적인 일로 (예를 들면 가족의 경조사) 일회성 지정헌금을 할 수 있습니다. 그 외에는 교회가 예산을 세워 진행하는 선교사역을 신뢰하고 ‘선교헌금’을 작정하고 드리는 것이 가장 바람직하다고 생각합니다.
둘째, 감춤의 원칙입니다. 선한 일을 할 때 지켜야 하는 원칙이 ‘오른손이 하는 것을 왼손이 모르게’ 하는 원칙입니다(마 6:3). 교회를 통하지 않고 선교헌금을 특정 선교사에게 개인적으로 직접하면 실은 선교사는 정서적으로 헌금한 분에게 빚진 의식에 매이게 됩니다. 또한 헌금한 분이 아무리 조심해도 헌금하고 생색내는 유혹에 노출되게 됩니다. 헌금하는 분의 신앙인격과 성숙에 따라 차이가 있겠지만, 최대한 감춤의 원칙을 지키는 것이 헌금을 받는 분이나 헌금을 하는 분의 신앙건덕 상 유익하다고 생각합니다. 그리고 우리가 꼭 기억해야할 것은 ‘선교는 교회가 한다’는 대전제입니다. 성도들은 주님의 지상명령(선교위임령)을 지켜가기 위해 각개 전투하라고 부름을 받은 자들이 아닙니다. 같이 협력하도록 교회로 부름받은 자들입니다. 선교는 교회가 합니다. 교회가 선교하도록 도와야 합니다. 성도님들은 개인의 이름을 교회 뒤에 감추고 교회가 선교하도록 최선을 다해 주시기를 부탁드립니다.
“너희의 재물이 있는 곳에 너희의 마음도 있다”(마 6:21) 하셨습니다. 우리의 마음이 선교에 있는지요?

On this day, Missions’ Day, whatever shape it may become, we are planning to dive straight into missions. However, there are a few considerations regarding principles for giving offering for missions.
First, there is the principle of trust. Although ‘trust’ is a given, there is still a need for review. In order to fund our missionaries and missional organizations, as well as to make our contributions towards the missional efforts by our denomination of C&MA, we plan out a missions budget and we pass it together through the general assembly. Afterwards, according to that need, every first Sunday of the month we give offerings for the missional effort in order to fulfill our end of the promise within that commitment. At times, these offerings are given as a specified offering. Specified offerings hold the purpose of giving to a certain missionary or organization. The church can simply proceed, business as usual, but a continued trend would be improper for the following reasons. First, there is a grave misunderstanding that can occur that the offering funds belong to the giver. Negativity can ensue from giving offering by the giver’s whim, as opposed to following the strategic missional strategy of the church and the budget that was outlined and agreed upon. Second, when a specified offering is given to a specific missionary, the balance of giving prepared by the church can falter as the offerings are being leaned too heavily in one direction. If a specific project by the mission field has been approved and ratified by the church, a one time offering may be appropriate, just as giving a specified fund would be appropriate particularly for a missionary’s personal aid (e.g. funerals and weddings). Otherwise, trust is needed in the church budget for missional giving, and I feel that it is in the best interest of the church to give to the overall missions fund by giving a general missions offering.
Second, there is a principle of concealment. Whenever you do something good, you must, “…not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.”(Matthew 6:3, ESV). When you give separately to a missionary without it being processed through our church finances, the missionary feels a sentiment of indebtedness, personally, to the giver. Additionally, no matter how hard the giver may try, she may be exposed to the temptation of exhibiting a patronizing attitude. This is most likely contingent on the maturity and spiritual character of the giver, however, adhering to a principle of concealment is beneficial towards the spiritual virtues of either the giver or the receiver. We also must not forget the presupposed notion that ‘missions is done by the church.’ The individual church members are not called to be the principal figures in battling to keep the Great Commission. We are called to be the church that works together. Missions are done by the church. We need to help the church fulfill missional works. I invoke that you conceal your own name behind the church and do your absolute best so that the church can proceed with missions well.
